OUR HISTORY.....
MAXX Factor started competing in 2005 and thanks to hard work, our coaches, our Region and a little luck, we accomplished our goals!
In April of 2008, we won the Sweet Adelines Region 19 Quartet Championship, qualifying us for the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Competition in Hawaii, where we placed fourth out of fifty-two top international quartets. Whew!
In April 2009, we were shocked and excited to win the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes which took us to San Francisco to compete in the National Harmony Sweepstakes. We competed with a variety of a cappella groups from all over the country and we were honored to be named the 2009 National Harmony Sweepstakes Champions! Wow!
In October 2009, we competed in Nashville in the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Competition where we became the 2010 Third Place medalist Quartet. Whew, again!
The quartet then auditioned for the very first season of the NBC/Sony A Cappella reality show "The Sing Off." What?! We were chosen from thousands of singing group to be one of the eight groups to compete on the first season of the show. We were warned that since the show was a new concept, it was going to be fast and furious! Boy, was it! In November and December of 2009, we spent 18 incredible days learning a cappella arrangements and filming in Hollywood at the Warner Brothers studio lot. We performed with amazing groups Face, Solo, the SoCals, the Beelzebubs, Noteworthy, Voices of Lee and Nota.
Onto our biggest goal...Friday, October 22, 2010, in Seattle, MAXX Factor competed and won the 2011 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Championship and became “Queens of Harmony!” What an honor!! A year later, MAXX Factor was inducted into the Sweet Adelines International Coronet Club. www.coronetclub.org WOW! We get to perform onstage every year with a chorus of championship quartet singers!
In August of 2012, original MAXX baritone Kim Gray took a hiatus from performing with the quartet and we welcomed baritone Dawn Adams Clifford who filled our baritone position perfectly for 6 years. As of September 2018, Dawn is singing with her new competitive quartet "All Fired Up" and Kim has returned as the fulltime performing MAXX baritone.
Over the past ten years, we have produced three CD's, coached Sweet Adelines quartets , choruses and acappella groups of all ages. We've been blessed to be invited to share our hobby at several Singers Schools and Youth Harmony Camps across the country, as well as internationally. We love to perform at charitable events and we try to perform as many events as our schedule can accommodate. We have performed for several United States Senators and Governors, the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, the Philadelphia Phillies, NASCAR, the United States Naval Academy and the University of Maryland Half Mile Marathon to support the Marilyn Greenebaum Cancer Center. In July of 2012, we were invited to represent Sweet Adelines International as "Barbershop Ambassadors" at the first United States hosted World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2014 MAXX was invited to be the local special guest performer in "The 2014 Sing Off Tour" and In 2015, a life long dream came true for us when we were invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City and at The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Maryland. It has been an honor to sing the National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles for the past eleven years and we continue to be a featured quartet performer at Sweet Adelines International Coronet Club Annual Show.
As of September 2018, MAXX has reunited with our original Baritone Kim Gray and continues to perform and coach throughout the barbershop and acappella communities.
